our medjugorje story

the events of Medjugorje are the inspiration for Craig Lodge Community and all our ministries

craig lodge and medjugorje
the family pilgrimage that changed everything
Back in the 80s, the MacFarlane-Barrow family owned Craig Lodge. They had heard reports that a little village in Bosnia-Herzegovina was receiving a Heavenly visitor. They went to see for themselves. They found a place experiencing the manifest power of God. The heavenly realm had invaded this patch of earth through the person of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Visions, apparitions, miracles, signs and wonders, were accompanying these visits by the Queen of Heaven. And peoples hearts were being touched and lives transformed through Mary's call to her children to convert. This family pilgrimage changed everything. Craig Lodge became a house of prayer and home to a community who shared a desire to respond to Mary's call. Everything that we do at Craig Lodge is in honour of Mary, the Queen of Peace.
the medjugorje story in brief
six children, a vision and a calling
On June 24, 1981, at about 6pm, six young parishioners from Medjugorje, Bosnia-Herzegovina, noticed the figure of a woman with a child in her arms on the hillside above the village. They were scared, and did not approach. The next day at the same time, June 25, 1981, four of them, Ivanka Ivankovic, Mirjana Dragicevic, Vicka Ivankovic and Ivan Dragicevic, felt strongly drawn to return to the place where they had seen the figure who they had recognised as Our Lady. Marija Pavlovic and Jakov Colo joined them. The group of Medjugorje visionaries was formed. They prayed with Our Lady and talked to her. From that day onward, they have had daily apparitions, together or separately. Mary says she has come to bring the world back to her Son, Jesus. She comes as Queen of Peace and she calls us to convert and to reconcile ourselves with God and with each other. She asks us to open our hearts to God and His plan for each one of us through prayer, fasting, scripture, the Eucharist and confession. In addition to the messages Our Lady gives on the 25th of each month for the world, the visionaries say they are each being entrusted with ten ‘secrets’. They tell us these will be revealed to the world three days before each one occurs. Around 40 million pilgrims have been to Medjugorje, including priests, bishops and cardinals.
the Church's position
In 2018 Pope Francis appointed Archbishop Hoser  as Apostolic Visitor to the parish of Medjugorje.  (more info on this here) Medjugorje is now under the direct guidance of the Vatican.  Archbishop Hoser has given many interviews and shown himself to be positive about Medjugorje.“This is what the people’s devotion in Medjugorje looks like: in the center is the Holy Mass, Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament, the sacrament of Reconciliation. And all of this followed by other forms of devotion: the Rosary and the Way of the Cross, which have turned what in the beginning used to be sharp stones into smooth paths.”Archbishop Hoser has made a point to invite all believers to go to Medjugorje, if they are able, and to receive spiritual renewal:“I would highly recommend it. I would say that it is the pilgrimage of spiritual change, conversion, and strengthening of faith – you can experience all of that there.” Craig Lodge Community will always seek to be obedient sons and daughters of the Church. For more information on Medjugorje, and an archive of all the messages, visit: www.medjugorje.hr
