the craig lodge community

we are treasure hunters looking for Heaven on earth, inspired by Our Lady’s visitation to Medjugorje and her call to live holy lives

the inspiration
inspired by Our Lady’s call to holiness at Medjugorje, our desire is for all people to come to know God’s love
Craig Lodge is a fruit of Our Lady’s call to conversion at Medjugorje.  The Community that has developed here is our response to that call.  Together we encourage one another to grow in holiness through living a life of prayer, service and evangelisation.

“Be holy in all that you do since it is the Holy One who has called you”  (1 Peter 1:15) Our way of life is a particular expression of answering this universal call and one which recognises Our Blessed Mother as our guide along the path to holiness and eternal life.  We choose to live this life in honour of Our Lady Queen of Peace.  We make this choice encouraged that the Church has always regarded community life as a means of progressing in the spiritual life.  A shared life of prayer and service helps us open our hearts to the Lord and to one another.

pray
“Pray, pray, pray!” - Medjugorje
Our day is punctuated by times of prayer, and this rhythm of prayer is the breath of our community life.   Our prayer takes various forms:  Morning and Evening Prayer of the Church, the Rosary, Praise and Worship, Lectio Divina, Intercession and the Way of the Cross.  At the heart of our community is the Eucharist, Jesus, present in the Blessed Sacrament in our chapel.   Holy Mass is the high point of our day and we set aside time for Eucharistic Adoration.
serve
“Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.  Each one should use whatever gifts he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”  - 1 Peter 4:8-11
We choose to use our gifts, spiritual and natural, to support one another and the mission of Craig Lodge. We welcome one another into our families and homes.  We extend this hospitality to all those who the Lord brings to Craig Lodge and especially to the young people who come to share our community life.  We volunteer our time to support the work of Craig Lodge in many different ways whether lending a hand with the washing up or offering prayer ministry to those on retreat. We pray and intercede for the all the ministries that flow out of Craig Lodge.
evangelise
“My children, I am gathering you as my apostles and am teaching you how to bring others to come to know the love of my Son; how to bring to them the Good News, which is my Son.” - Medjugorje
We choose to be witnesses to the good news of salvation.  We recognise that this may be chiefly through our way of life; the values we choose to live by are a silent witness to our faith in Jesus.  We also engage in more active forms of evangelisation so that all people have the opportunity to encounter the saving love of God.  As we serve the Craig Lodge mission we are always ready to share how God has revealed his love to us. We want to be carriers of hope and joy to others.
culture
“If you want to be very happy live a simple, humble life.” - Medjugorje
Our Community life embraces a simple lifestyle. The Community’s culture is ever-evolving it is an accumulation of our traditions and celebrations. Through our way of life we hope to learn how to find joy in the little things of life and to praise God in all things. Every member makes a contribution simply by being themselves.

As Our Lady reminds us of the spiritual value of fasting we choose to fast on Wednesdays and Fridays so we can be strengthened in the Lord. We live in a place of great natural beauty; a place where it is easy to see and praise God as Creator. We will always strive to be good stewards of all that the Lord entrusts to us as we share Craig Lodge with others. Coming together to give thanks to God and to offer him praise and worship in song and music is a vital part of our Community’s life. We constantly seek the gifts of the Holy Spirit so we can be better witnesses to the joy of the gospel.
leadership
our founders
The founders and leaders of Craig Lodge Community are Calum and Mary Anne MacFarlane-Barrow. Their initial response to Our Lady’s call to conversion at Medjugorje led them to give their hotel to God and to create a House of Prayer. They have remained the spiritual leaders of the Community that has Craig Lodge as its home. A Community Council assists them in this task. Our Bishop has appointed a chaplain to the community which keeps us closely connected to our diocese. We will always be loyal to the Holy Father and obedient to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
